Cataract Surgery Early or Late

Cataract surgery is not a matter of the earlier the better or the later the better, it is mainly based on the patient’s condition and his/her own wish to decide the timing of the surgery. Cataract surgery can be performed if the cataract causes a decrease in the patient’s visual acuity, which affects the patient’s daily life and work, and if the patient has a subjective will to have the surgery. Surgery can be considered if the cataract patient’s vision is reduced to about 0.5, but it is not an absolute indicator. If the patient’s visual acuity is 0.5-0.6, but the patient has higher visual acuity requirements or special occupational requirements, the patient can be corrected by surgery. Cataract causes complications, such as secondary glaucoma caused by crystalline allergic uveitis, etc. When encountering this situation, immediate surgery is needed, otherwise the patient’s vision can be seriously impaired. If the patient is accompanied by serious systemic diseases such as serious heart disease, serious blood diseases, which need to be treated by specialists, whether it is time for cataract surgery or not needs to be evaluated under the guidance of a doctor. It is recommended that cataract patients seek prompt medical attention to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions.
