What’s wrong with the whites of the eyes?

Greening of the white of the eyes may be a normal physiological phenomenon, or it may be caused by iron deficiency anemia, glaucoma and other diseases.
1. Physiological phenomenon: just-born babies have weak sclera, which can transmit the pigment underneath the sclera, so the eyes may look or have darker pigment and greenish color. With the growth of age, the development of the eyeball wall is completed, the pigment will be covered, which is a normal phenomenon, usually no special treatment.
2. Pathological phenomena
(1) Iron deficiency anemia: Iron deficiency anemia will cause uneven distribution of scleral collagen and local thinning, which will lead to the situation of greenish whites of the eyes, and the patients can use drugs such as ferrous sulfate and iron dextrose under the guidance of the doctor to carry out the treatment.
(2) Glaucoma: the intraocular pressure of patients with glaucoma will increase, and the thin area of sclera may be stretched thinner by the rising intraocular pressure, so the thin area of sclera will show the color of choroid inside, which will result in the appearance of glaucoma in the white of the eye.
It is recommended that patients with bluish whites of the eyes and other discomforts should consult a doctor promptly to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
