How vegans maintain their nutrition

Vegetarians are recommended to increase the intake of soy products, eggs and dairy products on top of a reasonable intake of vegetarian foods such as cereals and potatoes, vegetables and fruits, which are more helpful in maintaining a balanced nutrition. The basic food required by human beings can be categorized into five major groups, namely, cereals and potatoes, vegetables and fruits, animal food, soy and nuts, and fats and oils. The dietary structure of vegetarians is usually based on plant foods. It is recommended to increase the consumption of whole grains and reduce the intake of refined white rice and noodles; and increase the intake of dark vegetables and fresh fruits on the premise of ensuring adequate vegetable intake. In the case of vegetarians in the absence of animal food, should increase the intake of high-quality protein-rich beans and their products; if not strict vegetarians, appropriate daily intake of eggs, dairy to meet the body’s demand for protein. It should be noted that it is not recommended to be a complete vegetarian for a long period of time and abandon foods such as meat, as this may increase the risk of malnutrition. It is recommended to have a balanced and diversified daily diet that includes whole grains, legumes, mushrooms and algae, nuts and seeds, vegetables, fruits, meat, eggs and milk, etc., which is more beneficial to health.
