Does hypothyroidism require a lifetime of medication?

Usually, medication-induced hypothyroidism does not require lifelong medication. However, the majority of patients with hypothyroidism require lifelong medication and it is advisable to consult your doctor. Medication-induced hypothyroidism often occurs in the treatment of hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism is mainly caused by overuse of medication. In this case, thyroid function can be restored by reducing or stopping the medication. So there is no need to take medication for the rest of your life. Since patients with hypothyroidism are suffering from a hypothyroid disorder, it is mainly caused by Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, or it may be caused by thyroid surgery that removes part of the thyroid tissue, which results in limited thyroid hormone synthesis and secretion. Exogenous thyroid hormone replacement therapy is therefore required, so the vast majority of patients require lifelong medication. It is recommended that patients with hypothyroidism should go to a regular hospital and use medication appropriately under the guidance of a doctor.
