The generic name for Isosorbide Nitrate Extended-Release Tablets is Isosorbide Mononitrate Extended-Release Tablets and it should not be broken up. The drug should be taken by keeping the whole tablet intact and not chewed or crushed before taking it. Isosorbide Mononitrate Extended-Release Tablets can be used for the long-term treatment of coronary heart disease, prevention of angina, and treatment of chronic congestive heart failure. It is forbidden to use it if you suffer from acute circulatory failure, severe hypotension, acute infarction with low filling pressure, hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, constrictive pericarditis or pericardial tamponade, severe anemia, glaucoma, patients with increased intracranial pressure, and those who are allergic to nitro compounds. The drug may cause vasodilatory headache caused by nitrate in the early stage of use, and the symptoms are usually mostly relieved after continuous use of the drug.
