Are ovarian cysts serious?

Benign ovarian cysts are not serious, while malignant ovarian cysts are more serious. Ovarian cysts are usually cyst-like structures that form in and on the surface of the ovary and may contain fluid or solid material, and are a relatively common gynecological condition. In most patients, ovarian cysts are benign and disappear on their own over time without causing damage. In some cases, the cysts may grow and, if left untreated, may be at risk of torsion, rupture and infection, which can resolve with prompt treatment. It should be noted that some cysts may further develop malignant changes, which are more serious in this case, and may even cause epithelial carcinoma, which has a poorer prognosis and can jeopardize the patient’s life. For ovarian cyst disease, patients should be given standardized treatment after discovery to improve the patient’s symptoms.
