Is a defecography painful?

A defecography, also called a septography, is generally not too painful and can be tolerated by most patients. Generally when doing fecography, the catheter needs to be inserted into the anus first, and then injected with the same volume and viscosity of normal feces contrast agent, this process may produce a certain degree of discomfort, but generally does not cause pain, and the general public is able to tolerate. Fecography usually observes the process of defecation, and is mainly used in the clinical diagnosis of rectal mucosal prolapse, rectal intussusception, perineal descent syndrome and other functional diseases of the anus and rectum. It is recommended that the patient consume liquid food such as rice the day before the septography, take oral intestinal cleansing medication in the evening for intestinal cleansing, and take the examination on an empty stomach the next morning. Most patients can tolerate the mild discomfort caused by septography and do not need to worry too much about it, just follow the doctor’s instructions to do a good job of preparation.
