Is total cholesterol 5.36 hyperlipidemia?

Total cholesterol of 5.36 mmol/L is considered hypercholesterolemia, but not necessarily hyperlipidemia. Clinically, the normal range of serum total cholesterol is below 5.17 mmol per liter, and total cholesterol of 5.36 mmol per liter is mildly elevated. Elevated cholesterol levels alone can be diagnosed as hypercholesterolemia. However, it is not necessarily hyperlipidemia. Hyperlipidemia is defined as an elevation of plasma triglycerides and/or total cholesterol, along with a decrease in HDL cholesterol and an increase in LDL cholesterol. Hyperlipidemia is a chronic health hazard, and if it remains uncontrolled, it can lead to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, such as myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, atherosclerosis, stroke, and other serious complications. Therefore, if the patient found that the total cholesterol is high, must not be careless, must follow the doctor’s advice for treatment. Avoid greasy, high-fat food in daily life, eat more fresh fruits and vegetables; actively participate in sports activities and develop good living habits.
