Timing of hearing screenings for children

For hearing screening in children, newborns born normally are given an initial hearing screening 48-72 hours after birth. Those who pass the initial screening can have their hearing screened again every year from 0-6 years old. Parents of newborns who are not eligible for hearing screening should be advised to go to a medical institution with hearing screening within 42 days after birth for initial hearing screening. Newborns should undergo initial hearing screening before they are stabilized and discharged from the hospital. The initial screening requires a combined otoacoustic emission and rapid auditory brainstem response screening. Those who pass the screening should also have a hearing screening every six months within 3 years of age and at least once a year from 3-6 years of age. Those who do not pass the hearing screening should have a hearing rescreening at a specified time, and those who do not pass the rescreening should have a timely hearing diagnosis.
