What to do about lid xanthomas on the eyelids

Eyelid xanthoma is actually the most common type of xanthoma. Xanthomas are lesions that invade the dermis of the eyelid and basically do not go away on their own once they occur, so it is important to intervene as early as possible. The main methods of intervention include laser treatment or surgery. Because xanthomas invade the dermis of the eyelid, laser treatment is less effective and surgical treatment is recommended and should be performed as early as possible. Mainly because most yellow tumors of the eyelid are round or oval in shape and form areas of skin defect after excision, if the swelling is relatively small and is simply cut out and sutured directly in place, the patient will have less surgical trauma, less pain, and a better prognosis. If there is no intervention in the early stage and it is allowed to grow and the skin lesion is relatively large, it cannot be removed simply by surgery, which then involves methods such as flap transplantation. If surgery is performed when the yellow tumor is very large, the patient is more traumatized, the patient is more distressed, and the prognosis is not as good as if surgery were performed early. Therefore, once a yellow tumor of the eyelid occurs, patients are advised to have early treatment and early surgery.
