Can non-invasive detect cretinism?

Cretinism cannot be detected non-invasively. Cretinism is an endocrine disorder in which mental and physical development is impaired due to congenital hypothyroidism caused by insufficient synthesis of thyroid hormones, enzyme deficiencies and receptor defects. The diagnosis is confirmed by testing serum thyroid hormone levels. Non-invasive testing is primarily used to detect the risk of chromosome 18 and 21 trisomy and open spina bifida. If trisomy 18 or 21 occurs, the condition is characterized by congenital stupidity rather than cretinism, and there is a fundamental difference between the two. Therefore, non-invasive screening does not detect cretinism. It is important to have regular checkups during pregnancy and to keep up with all the tests, and to seek medical attention if any abnormalities are found.
