Stretta radiofrequency treatment is a minimally invasive endoscopic treatment for GERD, which has been successfully carried out in foreign countries for more than 10 years with very satisfactory results, and most patients have stopped using drugs and their quality of life has been significantly improved. However, the treatment is only used for heartburn and acid reflux abroad. After the introduction of this equipment in our hospital, under the guidance of academician Wang Zhonghao’s concept of “GERD, not asthma”, a large number of GERD patients with cough, asthma and other respiratory symptoms have been attracted to visit our hospital. Most of the patients received radiofrequency treatment and achieved unexpected results. The main mechanism of action is to cause tissue destruction and regeneration through heat energy, induce collagen tissue contraction and remodeling, and block nerve pathways, thus increasing the thickness and pressure of the lower esophageal sphincter and reducing transient lower esophageal sphincter relaxation to prevent gastroesophageal reflux. The effect is to prevent reflux. The procedure is performed under deep sedation and can be completed in the gastroscopy room in as little as 30 minutes. This technique brings a simpler treatment for GERD patients, and has outstanding features such as safe and effective, easy operation and quick recovery, which is welcomed by the majority of patients.
