If you have had intercourse after your period and are bleeding, you should have a basic gynecologic examination and, if possible, a TCT and HPV examination of the cervix for abnormal growths. If abnormal growths are seen directly by the naked eye, a biopsy of the abnormal growths can be performed directly, or a follow-up colposcopic biopsy can be performed depending on the final results of the TCT and HPV. Bleeding after intercourse does not exclude abnormal uterine bleeding and the decision to follow up with hysteroscopy should be based on the ultrasound findings.
