What ointment is used for herpes of the mouth and lips

Oral and labial herpes is a skin mucosal disease caused by herpes simplex virus infection, often manifested as clusters of small blisters in the mouth and lip area. Commonly used topical creams include recombinant human interferon alpha 2b ointment, acyclovir cream, mupirocin ointment, etc., which are mainly antiviral and prevent secondary bacterial infection. Currently, nucleoside analogues are considered to be the most effective drugs against herpes simplex virus, mainly acyclovir, valacyclovir and famciclovir. For mild oral and labial herpes, topical acyclovir cream and penciclovir cream can be used for treatment. The presence of rupture also requires the application of a combination of compound polymyxin B ointment, or anti-bacterial infection creams such as fusidic acid cream to prevent secondary bacterial infections. In addition to treatment with the above creams, oral antiviral treatment with valacyclovir hydrochloride pellets, famciclovir tablets, and acyclovir tablets is also required in severe cases of herpes labialis. If the herpes is followed by pustules or purulent exudate, it is considered to be a combination of bacterial infection and it is recommended to go to the hospital for examination and follow the doctor’s prescription after diagnosis.
