Parent training and consultation session on childhood immune thrombocytopenia

On January 2, 2016, a training and consultation session for parents of children with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) was held in Beijing, with more than 10 children with immune thrombocytopenia and nearly 100 parents attending the session. Dr. Huiping Yu, chief physician of the Department of Pediatrics, presided over the consultation session, and invited Dr. Xiaodong Shi, chief physician of the Children’s Hospital of the Capital Institute of Pediatrics, and Mr. Gao Hang, head of the ITP Home for Patients, to attend the session. During the meeting, Dr. Shi Xiaodong introduced the progress of western medical research on ITP, Dr. Gao Hang told the story of ITP home, and Dr. Yu Huiping introduced the “cocktail” therapy for children with immune thrombocytopenia. Several parents also shared their children’s treatment experience, and several children with ITP showed their talents such as dancing and poetry recitation. The event received unanimous approval from the parents. Dr. Huiping Yu, chief physician of the Department of Pediatrics of our hospital, has long been dedicated to the clinical research of childhood immune thrombocytopenia, and her original “cocktail” therapy has achieved good results in clinical practice, especially in children with immune thrombocytopenia whose first- and second-line treatments from Western medicine have failed. This event is also a part of her research on the related topic.
