Diffuse otitis externa, if left untreated, can cause plasma discharge from the external auditory canal with swelling and pain, and in severe cases, cause stenosis or atresia of the external auditory canal.
Diffuse otitis externa is a diffuse inflammation of the skin of the external auditory canal, mostly caused by streptococcus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. The common manifestations of this disease are plasma discharge from the external auditory canal, accompanied by ear pain, diffuse redness and swelling of the skin of the external auditory canal. If left untreated, it will evolve into a chronic inflammation, and in severe cases, it will lead to narrowing of the lumen of the external auditory canal or atresia.
Treatment includes general treatment, local treatment, antibiotic treatment and surgery.
1. General treatment: Early ultra-short-wave thermal physiotherapy or local hot compresses, active treatment of infected foci, such as purulent otitis media.
2. Local treatment: clean the external ear canal with 3% hydrogen peroxide solution, and use 1-3% phenol glycerin drops.
3. Antibiotic treatment: systemic antibiotics, such as azithromycin dispersible tablets, cefixime dispersible tablets, etc., if the infection is serious.
4. Surgery: atresia or stenosis of the external auditory canal should be treated with otorhinoplasty.
If you have pain in the external auditory canal, flow of plasma or purulent secretion, you should consult the doctor in time, under the guidance of the doctor for treatment, do not self-medication, to avoid delaying the condition.
