Generally endoscopy is not painful, but if the patient’s own inflammation of the external auditory canal is severe, endoscopy may irritate the wall of the external auditory canal and may aggravate the patient’s own pain symptoms.
Endoscopy is a very routine examination method in ENT, mainly to observe the general condition of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane, and can be clinically used for the diagnosis and treatment of otitis externa, cerumen in the external auditory canal, foreign bodies in the external auditory canal, acute otitis media, secretory otitis media and other diseases. For example, embedded deeper external auditory canal foreign body and external auditory canal cerumen can be operated under the endoscope for treatment.
The diameter of the endoscope is relatively thin, usually 2-3mm, and it will not cause pain if it does not touch the wall of the external auditory canal during the examination. However, if the patient has an inflammatory disease of the external auditory canal, stimulation of the wall of the external auditory canal during treatment may aggravate the patient’s pain symptoms.
If you are going to have an otoscopy, it is recommended to go to a regular hospital and standardize the operation.
