Safflower has the efficacy and effect of promoting menstruation, activating blood circulation, relieving pain and dispersing blood stasis.
1. It activates blood circulation and promotes menstruation, and can be used to treat irregular menstruation, amenorrhea, dysmenorrhea, and post-partum dysmenorrhea (a woman’s inability to discharge the evil discharge after giving birth) caused by stasis of blood and obstruction of menstruation. It is often combined with herbs such as peach kernel, angelica and chuanxiong, such as Tao Hong Si Wu Tang. It can also be combined with herbs such as Mudan Pi and Pu Huang to treat post-partum discomfort such as abdominal pain with stagnation.
2. Relieving pain and dissipating blood stasis, it can treat disorders such as heat and blood stasis, and maculopapular rash, and can be used in conjunction with herbs such as Pueraria Mirifica and Angelica Sinensis. Meanwhile, saffron can also be used to treat chest paralysis (chest pain), heart pain, tingling pain in the abdomen and ribs, and impediments in the abdomen (tangible or intangible lumps in the abdomen, with a feeling of distension and pain) and other discomforts, and it is often combined with peach kernel, rhubarb, and rhizoma ligustici, etc., and the common formulas include Fuxueiyuanxuaiyuantian Tang (复元活血汤).
However, saffron is not suitable for people with bleeding tendency or pregnant women.
