Hydrocephalus may occur in late pregnancy. Hydrocephalus in late pregnancy is known as congenital hydrocephalus, which refers to the development of hydrocephalus in the fetus during pregnancy and can be triggered by many causes. Hydrocephalus can occur in either mid or late pregnancy. Fetal hydrocephalus can occur if a woman drinks alcohol, smokes or is exposed to toxic substances, radiation, or takes certain medications, viral or bacterial infections during pregnancy. Usually, fetal hydrocephalus can be detected at around 18 weeks, but it can also be detected in the second trimester of pregnancy. Therefore, women are advised to have regular checkups during pregnancy, and early detection of hydrocephalus can be done through pregnancy checkups such as ultrasound.
