Whether a ligament rupture can heal itself depends on the severity of the rupture. If it is a minor ligament rupture it can heal on its own, if it is a complete rupture it cannot heal on its own. If it is a minor ligament rupture with symptoms such as edema and bruising, it can usually heal itself in 3-4 weeks by reducing the activity of the ruptured area, immobilizing the ruptured area with a cast or brace, and using topical medications or sprays to activate blood circulation and remove blood stasis; if it is a more serious rupture, it needs to be treated by direct suturing or surgical reconstruction of the ligament to recover. During the period of ligament rupture, it is important to pay attention to the diet and not to eat stimulating food or drink alcohol to avoid aggravation of the condition or other symptoms.
