A lumpy blood clot from a medical abortion may contain the pregnancy sac.
If a lumpy blood clot is discharged after a medical abortion, it may contain tissue from the pregnancy sac or it may simply be a blood clot. A pregnancy sac that is expelled after a medical abortion will be found to be round and covered with more white fluff if it is washed out with water. Some gestational sacs are not quite round, but are also surrounded by white fluff. There are also some gestational sacs that are not particularly obvious, or even like grape grapes, and are relatively smooth.
Most women can’t tell if it’s a sac or a blood clot after a medical abortion, so it’s recommended to collect the intact vaginal discharge and bring it to the hospital where a specialist can determine if there is a sac.
