Lying on a pillow can relieve colic to some extent, mainly by causing pressure on the abdomen, but the effect is limited.
Colic occurs most often in infants and can be relieved by the following methods.
1. Cognitive-behavioral interventions: first of all, parents should realize that anxiety can not effectively appease the child, so to calm down, and then choose the baby touch massage, exhaust manipulation, “wrapping method”, “colic hold” and other methods to alleviate the child’s colic.
2. Dietary intervention: Adjust the mother’s diet, i.e., hypoallergenic diet, and make sure there is enough breast milk. Artificially fed infants should be fed hypoallergenic formula or soy protein formula.
3. Medications: Currently, the most commonly used medications for infantile colic include sucrose or dextrose, lactase, and the antifoaming agent dimethicone.
4. Probiotics supplementation: Probiotics can improve the function of the epithelial barrier and inhibit the growth of intestinal pathogenic bacteria, thus reducing the inflammatory response. However, they should be used with caution for immunodeficient and critically ill children.
5. Pediatric massage: Some studies have shown that pediatric massage has a promoting effect on the improvement of intestinal flora. For example, chiropractic can improve children’s allergy scores and increase the colonization of probiotics.
Colic is very common in children and the cause is very complex. If colic occurs and the patient is unable to manage it on their own, they should go to the hospital and be treated under a doctor’s supervision.
