Are there any after-effects of the bone cement?

Bone cementing may have sequelae in the form of re-fracture, accelerated disc degeneration, and aggravation of neurologic symptoms. During minimally invasive vertebroplasty with bone cement, if the bone cement is injected unevenly and the cavity in the vertebral body is not completely filled, it is easy to cause the vertebral body to fracture again. Bone cement injection can cause accelerated degeneration of the neighboring discs of the fractured vertebrae and degeneration of the discs, potentially resulting in disc herniation. Leakage of bone cement may occur after injection into the vertebral body, and the leaking bone cement enters into the vertebral canal, and due to the exothermic hardening of the bone cement, it may cause burns to the nerves and spinal cord, and the hardened bone cement may also compress the local nerves and spinal cord, causing symptoms to appear in the area of the limb innervated by the nerves and spinal cord.
