Do you need to remove the stoma sutures?

Whether or not stoma sutures need to be removed is related to the material the sutures are made of and the individual’s specific recovery. In most cases, absorbable sutures are used during the procedure. Under normal circumstances, these absorbable and dissolvable sutures will naturally dissolve and fall off after a certain period of time and do not need to be removed. If there is inflammation in the wound, such as redness, swelling, heat, etc., the absorbable sutures may not be completely absorbed by the body and granulation may occur, which will need to be removed. If non-absorbable sutures or anastomoses are used, they must be removed. The usual time for removal is about 7 to 10 days after surgery. It is recommended to consult your doctor for advice and treatment under his/her supervision.
