Is it necessary to remove intraductal papillomas?

Surgical excision is the usual treatment for peripheral intraductal papillomas and intraductal papillomas presenting with bloody effusion. Patients with solitary papillomas and no nipple discharge may also be treated conservatively if the disease can be determined to be benign by ancillary tests, but they should be monitored closely and ultrasound and mammography are generally recommended every three months.
