There is no scientific basis for the use of scrambled eggs with vinegar to treat coughs, and vinegar is a stimulating condiment that may irritate the throat and aggravate coughs. From a TCM point of view, coughs are divided into external coughs and internal coughs. External coughs may be caused by wind-cold, wind-heat or wind-dry evil invading the body. If the cough is caused by wind-cold attacking the lungs, it can be treated with Sanjiao tablets and Anti-coughing powder. If the cough is caused by wind-heat attacking the body, use Mulberry Chrysanthemum Drink to treat the cough. If the cough is caused by dryness that injures the lung, it can be treated with Mulberry and Apricot Soup. If the cough is caused by internal injury, commonly associated with phlegm and turbidity, treat with Er Chen Wan and San Zi Yang Yin Tang plus or minus. If the cough is caused by phlegm-heat, it can usually be treated with Qing Jin Hua Phlegm Tang. If the cough is caused by deficiency of lung qi, it can be treated with Ginseng Nourishing Lung Pill.
