Human lungs in located in the human chest cavity, on both sides of the mediastinum, above the diaphragm, the left and right sides of each one. Its form is cone-like, with a tip, a bottom, two sides, three edges.
1. Lung tip: its shape is blunt and rounded, protruding upward to the root of the neck through the upper thoracic opening, and 2~3cm above the medial clavicle.
2. Lung base: also known as the diaphragmatic surface, it is concave upward and attached to the diaphragm. The right lung base is adjacent to the right lobe of the liver across the diaphragm. The left lung base is adjacent to the left lobe of the liver, spleen and stomach base across the diaphragm.
3. Rib surface: refers to the outer side of the lungs, close to the ribs and intercostal muscles, so it is called the rib surface.
4. Mediastinal surface: the inner surface of the lung, close to the mediastinum, so it is called mediastinal surface.
5. Anterior margin: the anterior margin of the right lung is nearly vertical, and there is a notch below the anterior margin of the left lung, which is the cardiac notch.
6. Posterior margin: attached to the sides of the spine.
7. Lower edge: extends between the diaphragm and the chest wall.
