Is a bloody nose an early sign of cancer?

Frequent bloody nasal discharge may be an early sign of cancer, especially nasopharyngeal cancer. However, it may also be caused by bad living habits or rhinitis.
1. Nasopharyngeal cancer: patients develop malignant tumor at the top or side wall of nasopharyngeal cavity due to viral infection, environment or hereditary factors. The tumor is located in nasopharynx, which may produce damage when sucking back the nasal cavity or secretion from nasopharynx with force, causing bloody nasal mucus. Therefore, bloody nasal discharge may be an early signal of cancer.
2. Bad habits: mainly refers to the habits of rubbing the nose, rubbing the nose and picking the nose, which may damage the mucous membrane of the Lei’s area and cause erosion, resulting in bloody nasal mucus. In this case, bloody nasal discharge is not an early sign of cancer.
3. Rhinitis: Inflammation of nasal mucosa caused by viral infection, exposure to certain allergens or heredity. Nasal mucosa often shows congestion, swelling, hyperplasia, exudation, atrophy and even necrosis, etc. Some patients’ mucous membrane is broken, which can show the symptom of bloody nasal mucus. Therefore, in this case, blood in the nose is not an early signal of cancer.
Although bloody nose is not necessarily an early sign of cancer, but there is a certain possibility, in the case of bloody nose, it is recommended to consult a doctor as soon as possible to make a clear diagnosis.
