It is possible to recover from EEG abnormalities. The most common disorder with EEG abnormalities is epilepsy, and the examination may reveal epileptic waves, including sharp, spike, sharp and slow waves, and spike-and-slow waves. In addition, all organic diseases in the brain that involve the cerebral cortex may result in EEG abnormalities, most commonly various types of encephalitis or meningitis. Even in the absence of epileptic waves, patients will often have diffuse slow wave abnormalities. In this case, patients with epilepsy should be treated actively with long-term oral antiepileptic drugs, and patients with encephalitis should be treated with targeted antibiotics against infection and antiviral drugs against viruses, and their EEGs will return to normal after the patients are cured. The EEG can be normal during the interictal period and abnormal waves can appear only during the seizure period, so it should be frequently reviewed for monitoring.
