Viral infections are upper respiratory tract infections that occur mostly in winter and spring and are spread by airborne transmission, mainly in the form of droplets from patients sneezing or coughing. Clinically, patients usually present with symptoms such as fever, headache, nausea, runny nose, and sore throat. Treatment is with broad-spectrum antiviral drugs, such as ribavirin or oseltamivir phosphate. If the patient has symptoms of fever and pain, they can be treated with symptomatic oral anti-inflammatory drugs of non-carrier type. In addition, during a viral cold, patients are advised to get plenty of rest, drink plenty of water, and keep the air circulating in the room to prevent possible bacterial infections.
