TPO-Ab is an antibody to thyroid peroxidase, which is a marker of a person’s susceptibility to autoimmune thyroid disease; a significantly elevated TPO-Ab may be associated with autoimmune thyroid disease, hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism in the future. An elevated level of this antibody is also associated with a significantly increased risk of miscarriage in women of childbearing age who become pregnant. Although thyroid peroxidase antibodies have been found to have an effect on pregnancy in women of childbearing age, no good clinical findings have been made. However, no good clinical solution has been found for elevated antibodies. Personally, I do not advocate the use of glucocorticoids and immunosuppressants to lower thyroid peroxidase antibodies or thyroglobulin antibodies. However, one can try to lower TPO-Ab by consuming selenium-rich foods.
