Spinal stenosis is a disease in which various causes cause the shortening of various diameters of the spinal canal, compressing the dural sac, spinal cord or nerve roots, which leads to a series of neurological dysfunctions, such as pain, numbness, limb weakness, claudication, and urinary and bowel disorders. The after-effects of spinal stenosis surgery are less severe, mainly manifested as back stiffness, muscle atrophy, numbness and pain in the lower limbs, and may even lead to paralysis. Patients may show symptoms such as back stiffness and muscle atrophy, mainly due to longer nerve compression and longer inactivity after the surgery, which causes back muscle stiffness and atrophy, and generally need to carry out timely functional exercises for the lower back to promote muscle recovery. Most of the patients also show numbness and pain in the lower limbs, and when the symptoms are more serious, there will be perineal tingling, limb movement disorder, defecation and urination disorder, etc. This may be related to the nerve damage caused by excessive pulling of the nerve tissues during the operation, which can be recovered on its own, and it can also be prescribed to take medicines to nourish the nerves, such as methylcobalamin tablets, adenosylcobalamin tablets and so on. Some patients also show that numbness and pain in the lower limbs still persist after the use of drugs, mostly due to nerve compression, spinal cord or nerve root edema, if not treated in time, resulting in severe compression of the spinal cord, which may lead to paralysis. Conservative treatments such as acupuncture, electrotherapy or physiotherapy are usually available, and surgery is considered again in severe cases. After the spinal stenosis surgery, we should strengthen the protection of the injured area, not to do heavy physical work within six months, do not do strenuous exercise, do not do a large range of movements, strengthen the awareness of self-protection, to avoid prolonged sitting, prolonged standing, and to avoid prolonged maintenance of the same position.
