What are the goals of asthma treatment?

  Simply put, the goal of asthma treatment is to keep the child’s quality of life and growth from being compromised by (1) effectively controlling acute exacerbation symptoms and maintaining minimal or no symptoms.  (2) To prevent recurrence or exacerbation of symptoms.  (3) Maintain lung function at or near normal levels as much as possible.  (4) Prevent irreversible airflow limitation from occurring.  (5) Maintain normal mobility.  (6) Avoid adverse drug reactions.  (7) Prevent death due to asthma.
