Hypertensive patients without specific fruit allergies and generally without fruit contraindications can eat in moderation.
Hypertension is defined as an office measurement of systolic blood pressure ≥140 mmHg and/or diastolic blood pressure ≥90 mmHg without the use of antihypertensive medication, and is a common chronic clinical condition. Fruits are beneficial but not harmful to the condition of hypertensive patients; therefore, hypertensive patients without allergies are recommended to consume fresh fruits in moderation.
Dietary recommendations for hypertensive people are: increase the intake of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and low-fat or skimmed dairy products; and limit the intake of sodium and alcohol to no more than 6 grams of sodium per day. In addition, they should monitor their blood pressure and review it regularly, take blood pressure-lowering drugs as prescribed by their doctors, and not stop taking them at will.
