Before gastric cancer surgery, pay attention to patient’s nutrition and feeding: give high protein, high calorie, high vitamin and less residue soft food, semi-liquid food or liquid food according to the condition. To correct water-electrolyte disorders and accurately record the in and out quantity, for those who are severely malnourished, have low plasma protein or anemia, protein supplement or blood transfusion should be given before gastric cancer surgery. For those with pyloric obstruction, warm saline should be used to wash the stomach every night 3-7 nights before gastric cancer surgery to eliminate gastric accumulation and reduce gastric mucosal edema. For severe pyloric obstruction, gastrointestinal decompression should be performed 1 to 3 days before gastric cancer surgery to reduce the volume of the stomach. A gastric tube should be placed in the morning of gastric cancer surgery and left in place after the gastric juice is pumped out.
