Some questions about laser treatment for glaucoma

  1. Is there an order of priority between traditional surgery and laser treatment? Glaucoma is divided into two categories: open angle type and closed angle type. For glaucoma, in terms of traditional surgery and laser treatment, laser treatment is usually chosen first, and if the laser treatment is not effective, surgery can be performed. 2.What types of glaucoma are laser treatment suitable for patients with glaucoma? Laser treatment is suitable for primary glaucoma, both closed angle type and open angle type, but the laser used and the method of treatment are different. 3.Can I keep my eye pressure normal for a long time after laser treatment? Can it slow down the vision loss? After laser iridoplasty and laser atrial angioplasty, the IOP can be maintained at a normal value for a period of time, which can slow down the vision loss. 4. Can I have laser treatment in both eyes at the same time? No. Both eyes should be treated separately as much as possible. 5.Do I need to have laser treatment in the other eye when I have an acute attack in one eye? Yes. Because primary angle-closure glaucoma is usually bilateral. 6.What are the conditions under which treatment may fail? Is there a risk of blindness? It is very unlikely that the treatment will fail. It is usually due to insufficient amount of laser, or bleeding that causes acute attacks. There is usually no risk of blindness if the laser is detected and treated correctly in time. 7.What should I do if the IOP does not drop significantly after laser treatment? Laser treatment can be repeated; it can also be combined with medication and surgery. 8.After laser treatment, do I still need long-term medication to lower IOP? How do I use them? It depends on the IOP situation after the laser. If the target IOP is not reached, combined medication is also needed. If the medication is effective, it should be long-term, just like we eat, less one meal is hungry, so is the IOP, less one time, the IOP will be high. 9.What if the IOP rises again after a period of laser treatment? You can repeat the laser, or medication, or subjected to surgical treatment. Most of the time a combination of treatment is needed. 10.After laser treatment – what is the problem of elevated eye pressure, distension, eye congestion, constant tearing, extra light in the eyes, loss of vision, and dry eyes? What should I do? Elevated intraocular pressure, swelling and pain, eye congestion, constant tearing, extra light in the eye, and decreased vision are probably caused by laser treatment of debris in the iris tissue. Dry eyes may be related to the use of medication, you can use some artificial tears, such as sodium vitreous eye drops. If the IOP is not well controlled with medication, then further examination and, if necessary, surgery is required.
