What happens when platelet width is high

High platelet width, i.e. high platelet distribution width, has some clinical significance and may indicate leukemia and other diseases, but usually does not cause serious effects and does not need to worry too much. The distribution width of platelet volume is a commonly used clinical indicator, which can reflect the degree of consistency of platelet volume size, the smaller indicates that the platelets tend to be more consistent state. When the blood is concentrated due to factors such as dehydration, this indicator may be slightly higher, which is a normal physiological phenomenon. In addition, a high platelet width can be seen in acute myeloid leukemia, megaloblastic anemia, primary thrombocythemia, thrombophilia, or other myeloproliferative disorders, although these disorders need to be diagnosed in conjunction with other markers. Abnormalities in this one indicator alone are usually of little significance and usually have no effect and do not require special treatment. If there is any discomfort, please consult your doctor and combine with other tests to confirm the diagnosis.
