Gastroscopy on an empty stomach?

Gastroscopy is a test used to help examine lesions in the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum, and can also be used to aid in the diagnosis of specific causes of conditions such as flatulence, abdominal pressure, and difficulty swallowing.
Gastroscopy can be categorized into ordinary gastroscopy and painless gastroscopy. The examiner should keep an empty stomach before doing the examination, and should keep an empty stomach within 8 hours before the ordinary gastroscopy, and should fast for 8~12 hours and 4 hours before the painless gastroscopy, so as to avoid food residues remaining in the stomach and covering the surface of the gastric mucous membrane, which may affect the examination results.
After gastroscopy, the examiner may experience discomfort in the throat, hoarseness, etc. There is no need to be overly nervous, and it can be relieved on its own. If, after the examination, there is vomiting of blood, black stools, abdominal pain and other discomforts, medical attention should be sought immediately.
