Clinical manifestations of lumbar disc herniation

The lumbar intervertebral disc is susceptible to injury and degeneration due to its location between two vertebrae, lack of rich blood circulation, poor repair ability, especially in the lower lumbar spine, which is subject to high forces and a wide range of motion. This leads to disc herniation. The clinical manifestations of lumbar disc herniation are divided into: 1. Onset: Mostly seen in young adults, patients aged 20-40, accounting for about 80%, with a male to female ratio of about 8:1, about one-third of patients have a history of trauma, and about half of the patients are manual laborers. 2, waist and hip pain: most patients have trauma, cold or overexertion induced waist and hip pain dull pain, pain relieved after rest, repeated episodes, weeks or months later gradually feel the soreness of one side of the lower limbs. There is also a part of patients with sudden onset of severe pain in the waist, hip and leg, which is unbearable, and most of these patients have a clear history of trauma. 3.Radiation neuralgia: Patients mostly have radiating pain in one side of the lower limb, which is often referred to as sciatica. Its onset is after the lumbar and hip pain, and there are also a few of them occurring at the same time with the lumbar and leg, or the radioactive pain of the lower limb occurs first and the lumbar pain comes after. Lower extremity pain is mostly unilateral, starting from the lower back and buttocks and gradually radiating downward to the thighs, calves and feet. The location and nature of the pain varies depending on the nerve, location and degree of pressure. Coughing and sneezing may cause a sudden increase in the pressure in the spinal canal, which may trigger an increase in pain, while bending the hip or knee or lying on the side may reduce the pain. Coldness, numbness and coldness of the affected limb are common and must be distinguished from vascular diseases of the lower limbs. 4, lower limb sensory disorders: one side of the lower limb numbness like ants, pressure on the innervation area shallow sensation, nociception, temperature sensation is dull. 5.Muscle atrophy of lower limb: for those who have been suffering from the disease for a long time, it is often found that the painful limb becomes thin and weak, i.e. muscle atrophy.
