Cistanchis are the fleshy stems with scaly leaves of the plant Cistanchis, family Ledebouriae. It is mainly produced in Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang, Gansu and other places. Clinically, it can be used for treating infertility due to uterine cold, impotence and premature ejaculation, lumbar and knee soreness and weakness, musculoskeletal impotence and weakness, insomnia and forgetfulness, tinnitus and deafness, and intestinal dryness and constipation caused by deficiency of kidney yang and deficiency of essence and blood. It is not suitable for people with deficiency of yin and fire, and those with loose stools and diarrhea.
Cistanchis can be soaked in wine, but unlike decoction, soaking in wine is not a good treatment for diseases because of the limited extraction of active ingredients.
