Many people think that “senility” is a natural phenomenon, and they are even reluctant to go to the hospital because they are afraid of being regarded as demented. This situation is likely to delay the diagnosis and treatment of the disease, which may lead to serious consequences. The high prevalence of dementia in our country and the low awareness, low consultation rate and low effective treatment rate of dementia among the public is one of the reasons for this situation. If we miss the early intervention stage, when the dementia reaches the advanced stage, the patient’s functioning in all aspects will be like a waterfall which is hard to be recovered, and the treatment effect is very poor. Therefore, we hope that patients with dementia can be detected earlier, diagnosed and treated earlier in order to slow down the progress of dementia. If the elderly cannot receive timely and appropriate treatment and care, their intelligence and ability to live may decline rapidly, and their ability to take care of themselves may deteriorate to the extent that they are completely dependent on family members for care. Complications such as pneumonia, bedsores and malnutrition may occur early and require repeated hospitalization, increasing medical costs. In serious cases, patients may lose their way, suffer from bone fracture or die prematurely due to improper treatment and care. Therefore, a scientific approach to dementia, openness, early detection, early consultation and early treatment will enable the elderly with dementia to better retain their functions and prolong their lives. Family members can also learn the professional knowledge of caring for the elderly and make better arrangements for various matters, while reducing the burden on the family at the same time.
