What to do if you have low thyroid hormone after surgery

Postoperative low thyroid stimulating hormone may be caused by oversupplementation of thyroid hormone, which needs to be reduced accordingly, and it is recommended to follow the doctor’s instructions. 1. Postoperative oversupplementation of thyroid hormone If you take levothyroxine sodium for postoperative hypothyroidism, if you take too much of it, it may lead to low secretion of thyroid stimulating hormone, and the patient needs to reduce the dosage under the guidance of the doctor. 2. The original hyperthyroidism still exists (1) Subclinical hyperthyroidism: It is only a simple low thyroid stimulating hormone, not accompanied by abnormal elevation of triiodothyronine and thyroxine. Usually, no special treatment is needed. (2) Hyperthyroidism: Low thyroid stimulating hormone combined with abnormal elevation of triiodothyronine and thyroxine. This condition of low thyrotropin levels usually requires anti-hyperthyroidism treatment, including anti-hyperthyroidism drugs methimazole and propylthiouracil, and radioactive 131 iodine. For post-surgical low thyrotropin hormone needs to be treated under a doctor’s supervision.
