Bupropion Extended-Release is an antidepressant with a mechanism of action that includes inhibition of the reuptake of dopamine and norepinephrine, as well as blocking nicotinic acetylcholine receptors. In smokers with severe nicotine dependence, coapplication of nicotine replacement may result in increased smoking cessation. Adverse reactions include loss of appetite, dry mouth, facial flushing, sweating, irritability, insomnia, headache and vertigo. It is contraindicated in persons who are hypersensitive to the product and the ingredients contained therein, in patients with epilepsy, in persons with anorexia nervosa or abnormal appetite, or in persons who have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor within the last 14 days. It should not be used by pregnant and lactating women, or children under 18 years of age.
