How long does it take to recover from an Achilles tendon injury?

The speed of recovery from an Achilles tendon injury depends mainly on the severity of the Achilles tendon injury. A mild Achilles tendon injury can be recovered in 2-3 weeks, while a complete rupture of the Achilles tendon takes more than 3 months to recover. The Achilles tendon is the thickest tendon in the body, and overstretching can lead to strain of the Achilles tendon, which is manifested as pain in the Achilles tendon and aggravated by activity. After the strain of Achilles tendon, local brake should be applied and oral blood-stasis activating drugs should be taken to promote the healing of the wound, which can gradually recover in about 2-3 weeks. If a violent injury leads to rupture of the Achilles tendon, an MRI is required for a clear diagnosis, and surgical treatment to repair the ruptured tendon with local braking usually takes 2-3 months, or even longer, to recover. The younger the age and the better the physical condition, the shorter the recovery time. After an Achilles tendon injury or rupture, the Achilles tendon needs to be fixed in the hyperextended position and reviewed regularly in the hospital. The fixation should not be removed on your own to avoid re-injury to the tendon.
