The color and shape of normal newborn stool

The color and shape of a newborn’s normal stool will vary depending on the time of birth and how it is fed, so it is not possible to generalize. Fetal stools are usually darker in color and thicker in consistency. After that, the stool will become yellow and mushy. The normal color of stools passed within 24 hours of birth is brown, tan or dark green, and thick, and the stools passed during this period are called meconium stools. After 1~2 days of breastfeeding, the stools will gradually turn yellow and usually may be mixed with some fetal stools. Usually, the fetal stools will be cleaned up in 3~4 days after birth and will become normal stools, which are usually golden-yellow in color, softer and thicker in texture, and may be passed 6~7 times a day. If the baby is formula-fed, the stools will be slightly drier, pasty and pale yellow in color, and may be passed 1 to 3 times a day. If the baby’s bowel movements increased significantly, the stool is thin, watery, with milk petals, the taste of sour smell, may be caused by indigestion, to actively go to the hospital, follow the doctor’s advice to use the appropriate regimen.
