Common duct stones are a common biliary tract disease that presents with clinical manifestations such as abdominal pain, fever, and yellow staining of the skin and mucous membranes, and may cause obstructive suppurative cholangitis leading to death. Smaller stones can be removed by ERCP, while larger stones are often removed by open surgery. However, open surgery requires a large incision of about 15 cm in the upper abdomen, which is traumatic, slow to recover, and associated with postoperative discomfort such as pain and incisional infection, and greater patient suffering. With the development of minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery, laparoscopic common bile duct incision for stone extraction has been gradually carried out. Laparoscopic choledochotomy only requires 3 to 4 small openings of 0.5 to 1 cm in diameter in the abdomen to remove the large stones in the common bile duct, which is less traumatic, faster recovery, and no postoperative pain or incision infection, significantly reducing patient pain. However, the procedure is difficult and is not performed in many hospitals. Our hospital is a large tertiary hospital in Shanghai. Based on a large number of laparoscopic operations, I have skillfully performed laparoscopic common bile duct excision and stone extraction, which has been widely praised by patients.
