Is tuberculosis sexually transmitted?

Tuberculosis is not transmitted through sexual intercourse. Tuberculosis is a disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, and the main transmission route is through the respiratory tract. Close contact with the patient may be infected by inhaling these droplets. In addition, by consuming milk or contaminated milk products from cows with bovine tuberculosis, the bacilli can reside in the intestines or tonsils and become infected. Transmission by direct inoculation through skin lesions and incisions is relatively rare and occurs only in workers who come into contact with TB bacteria; therefore, TB is not transmitted through sexual intercourse.
