Routine stool specimen collection includes the steps of container collection, defecation sampling, and specimen delivery, etc. Specific instruments should be used for sampling according to the needs of the condition as instructed by the doctor. 1. Container collection: after payment of fees to the test center to obtain sampling equipment, including containers and spoons or sticks or cotton swabs. 2. Defecation sampling (1) When conditions permit, try to defecate in a dry and clean bedpan. After defecation, use a spoon or stick to take about 5 grams of solid feces, about the size of a soybean grain, and put it into the container to avoid staining sewage and urine. (2) Take care to collect as many abnormal parts of the feces as possible, such as pus and blood parts and parts with mucus. (3) If parasite eggs are to be examined, 5~10 grams of stool with blood or mucus should be taken from different parts of the stool; when examining amoeba, the bedpan should be heated up to the body temperature, and the specimen should be sent to the hospital for examination together with the bedpan after defecation. (4) In case of patients with defecation disorders, after cleaning the perianal area, a cotton swab dipped in sterile saline should be inserted into the anus for 4~5 centimeters and gently rotated to take a sample, and then the swab should be placed into the culture medium. 3. Specimen delivery: label the container or culture medium with personal information and deliver it for examination within 2 hours. Stool routine specimen collection should usually be done within 30 minutes of defecation, and at the same time to avoid specimen contamination by urine, so as not to affect the test results.
