The main purpose of pregnancy test for men is to do routine semen examination to observe the semen liquefaction time, sperm count, sperm vitality, sperm viability, and percentage of morphologically normal sperm. Abnormal semen quality can affect fertility. If abnormalities are detected, further tests are needed to find the cause of the abnormal semen quality. Patients can have ultrasound of the spermatic veins to determine the presence of varicocele because varicocele can cause oligospermia or hypospermia. Patients can also have a routine prostate fluid test to look for white blood cells and determine the degree of prostatitis, as prostatitis often leads to abnormal semen liquefaction time.
