Can pneumonia be life-threatening?

Pneumonia is relatively common and rarely results in life-threatening conditions as long as treatment is actively pursued as early as possible and the best treatment period is not delayed. However, if pneumonia is not treated aggressively, or if the body’s resistance is particularly weak, or if there is underlying disease, it is likely to lead to death. For example, severe pneumonia may develop into severe pneumonia, respiratory failure, systemic sepsis or pulmonary edema, or pulmonary heart disease, all of which may lead to death. Therefore, when pneumonia occurs, it must be treated early and aggressively, and appropriate antibiotics or antiviral drugs need to be selected according to the type of pneumonia infection. It is important to be hospitalized for treatment during pneumonia, and the effect of oral medication at home is not sufficient. In more severe cases of pneumonia, even glucocorticoids may be needed for shock treatment. If the shortness of breath is severe, aminophylline is also required.
